When you talk about the USA helmet during World War II, you think exclusively of the M1 steel helmet, but in reality this was not the only helmet used during the war by United States troops.
The US Marine Corps (USMC) adopted the pressed fiber helmet on October 1, 1940 and it was in use throughout World War II. First appeared in the 1st Marine Division displaced in Guantanamo Bay. This helmet actually entered service before the M1, and was in use until the 1990s. It has been adopted by other branches of the military as well but is more widely recognized as a Marine Corps helmet. It was used extensively as a training helmet.
More than 100,000 helmets were produced by the companies:Hawley Products Company y “International Hat Company”.
The military pith helmet is distinguished from that designed for civilian use by the front hole that allows the corresponding emblem to be worn.
We can indicate that this model was manufactured by theInternational Hat Company about 1942-1943, it is distinguished by the number of folds on the simulated scarf, and by the pattern of the position of the ventilation holes. It bears the frontal bronze emblem of the Marines (USMC), an emblem that was called EGA (Eagle, Globe, Anchor). Markings are not appreciated.
