A LITTLE HISTORY
The combat helmet has been an essential element in all armies throughout history, and mainly in the Ancient, Middle and Renaissance-Modern Ages.
Approximately from the Contemporary Age (18th century) the armies of the different countries changed the combat helmet for the classic and striking caps, in keeping with the also striking uniforms, with the exception of some special troops, since perhaps it was considered the protection of the helmet is useless in the face of the rise of firearms.
The appearance of the combat helmet again on the scene, occurred already at the beginning of the First World War (1915), when the countries that intervened in it, given the large number of casualties due to head injuries due to the new type of war that was being developed, they began to think of the steel helmet as an element to improve the protection of their troops.
The first attempt was made by Germany in 1915 with the design of un leather helmet(based on the "pickelhaube”) with a steel front and with protection for the nose, with this they tried to improve the protection of the troops at the front from artillery attacks, this helmet was called "Gaede" name of its designer the GeneralHans Gaede:
Now, the first steel helmet itself was designed by France in 1915, 6 months after the war began. France was the first country to incorporate the steel helmet for the use of its troops, thus the new M15 helmet or “Adrian” name that is due to that of its designer, GeneralAdrian.
Great Britain also did not take long to incorporate its new helmet, with a design reminiscent of those used by the old troops in the Middle Ages, the so-called "MKI" or "brodie”. Finally in 1916 Germany incorporated the so-called M16 into its troops, which was perfected shortly after receiving the new model the name of M18.
Another country that developed its helmet was Italy with the model that was calledFarina,although they did not take long to adopt the French model (Lippmann).
Once the First World War ended and in the period called "between the wars" the different countries continued working and perfecting the previous designs with which the new models appeared, which were used during the Second World War.
