Once thewinter warin March 1940, and with the beginning of Operation Barbarossa on 06/22/1941, Finland aligned with Germany to recover the territories ceded to the USSR in the armistice, which began el  to the callcontinuation warof Finland against the USSR.

The Finnish government again announced the start of hostilities with the USSR on 06/25/1941, with which the army needed to be equipped again and with it the need to manufacture its own helmet. Due to the good relations it had with Finland, Sweden ceded the design of its new M37 helmet to Finland, with which the new Finnish M40 helmet called,KypäräM40.

The helmet was made byWartsila OyYKone-ja Silta Oy,and until the summer of 1944, 75,000 units were manufactured, with which only select units could be equipped. With the conditions of the new armistice with the USSR, production was stopped.

At the end of World War II, only about 6,000 helmets remained, which were used by special units.

The helmet in the collection was refurbished immediately after the war (note the checkered tablecloth-like fabric on the inside of the leather lining) and the chinstrap was also changed, adding two more rivets and removing the internal decal of the helmet. maker.
