Established on November 11, 1940, after the Italian invasion of Greece. It was instituted in three classes that were distinguished by the crown, as follows:

 

1st class - gold crown

2nd class - silver crown

3rd class - bronze crown

Awarded for acts of heroism in action to military personnel.

With the 1942 regulation, the first award of the medal was always the 3rd class, and after the third award the first prize was always to be made in the third class. With the fifth and eighth concession, it was passed to the 2nd class and 1st class respectively,

 

There are several variants as there were many manufacturers in Greece and others in the UK. The main variations are in the style of the crown and cross.
